Dr. Joseph P. Casey The guest speaker for our May 3, 2018 meeting was Dr. Joseph P. Casey, Chesterfield Count Administrator. Dr. Casey’s spoke on the State of the County.

Dr. Casey was originally scheduled to speak in January, but that meeting was cancelled due to weather. Prior to his selection by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors as County Administrator starting July 1, 2016, Casey served as deputy county manager for Henrico County since 2013. In that role, he had direct responsibilities over the Departments of Finance, General Services, and Information Technology as well as the Public Library, Legislative Liaison, and Manager’s Office support staff.

Prior to Henrico, he had a lengthy career in Hanover County where he started in 1990 as director of finance and management services until 2004, when he was promoted to deputy county administrator.

Casey holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Richmond. Dr. Casey also has a master’s degree in public administration and a doctorate in Public Policy and Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Casey is a certified public accountant who started his career with KPMG accounting firm. Professional affiliations include the International City/County Management Association, and Virginia Local Government Management Association, for which he serves on the Executive Board. Prior affiliations include Govern- ment Finance Officers Association and the Virginia Government Finance Officers’ Association.

Dr. Casey currently serves on the boards of the Greater Richmond Convention Center Authority, The First Tee Richmond and Chesterfield, the Appomattox River Water Authority and the South Central Wastewater Authority. In addition, he serves on the Capital Region Collaborative and the Innovation Council of Virginia Biotechnology Research Park.

Prior community affiliations include roles on the Board of Directors for Housing Opportunities Made Equal and Virginia Equal Housing Foundation. In addition, Dr. Casey has previously served as an adjunct professor for Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Tech.

Casey and his wife, Suzanne, have three children.
