The guest speaker for our December 6, 2018 meeting was Mr. David A. Potter, Community Recreation Manager for Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation. The topic of Mr. Potter's presentation wa An Overview of Chesterfield Parks and Recreation and the Exciting Programs Offered.


David PotterMr. David A. Potter grew up in the Appalachian Mountains along the Kentucky and Virginia border. Actively involved in sports and outdoor activities, he developed a love for parks and recreation. In high school he noticed some of his friends getting in trouble and heading down the wrong road. He began to realize that it was his involvement in extracurricular activities that helped him to build character and created the spark to pursue a career in parks and recreation.

David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Park and Recreation Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Management from Virginia Commonwealth University.

David and his wife Dena relocated to Chesterfield in 2005 when he began working for Chesterfield Parks and Recreation as the supervisor of Bensley Recreation Center. Today he is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional and serves as Community Recreation Manager, where he oversees the department's recreation centers, historic sites, special events, older adult programs, therapeutic recreation, and community-based programs.

David is a dedicated public servant who is passionate about improving the lives of our citizens. Earlier this year David was featured on the cover of the Chester Village News in an article titled Engaged Individuals Who Made a Difference in our Community.
