Visit Virginia’s Wine Country with the Brandermill Men’s Club Thursday

Come join your Brandermill friends on this exciting day tour into Virginia’s Wine Country. Few regions throughout the world offer the soil characteristics, climate and unique growing conditions so essential to the production of premium wines like those in Virginia. Early settlers started Virginia’s wine tradition in 1609 and today’s wines number in the hundreds and regularly receive accolades from major publications and international wine competitions.

Perhaps the most well known vineyard in central Virginia is the Barboursville Vineyards. These internationally recognized vineyards are located on 830 acres of beautiful rolling hills near the Blue Ridge Mountains. What makes this winery unique is its location - the Barboursville Ruins, a Virginia Historic Landmark. Preserved after its destruction by fire in 1884, Barboursville was one of the largest and finest residences in the region. This plantation home was designed by Thomas Jefferson for his friend and Governor of Virginia, James Barbour. Learn the unique history of Barboursville as you tour the winery.

You are in for a special luncheon treat at The Bavarian Chef - a renowned German restaurant located just south of Culpeper that brings a little “Bavaria to the Blue Ridge.” Entrees include such choices as Mandel Schnitzel (pork tenderloins coated with almonds, served in a strawberry gin sauce), or Wiener Schnitzel (scallops of veal, hand breaded, sauteed and served in a burgundy sauce), Rainbow Trout, Bavarian Sausage Platter - just to name a few of their delicious dinners choices.

After lunch visit Horton’s Cellars. Here you will taste nationally acclaimed wines in this old world Tudor winery. This winery received over 100 medals in 1998 and has over 25 wines to delight the palate.
