Our speaker was Bernadette Gilmore from the Chesterfield County Agency on Aging. She discussed available resources for disability services and mobility services along with the volunteer groups associated with these services.

Our June 3, 2021 Zoom meeting was presented by our former president, Commander Fred Carter USN. He presented “Sailor’s Sea Stories” about his experiences over his illustrious career in the U.S Navy that includes his first tour of duty aboard the Zellars to his tour as commanding officer of the nuclear attack submarine USS Haddo.

The BRMC Monthly Membership Zoom Meeting for March 4, 2021 was presented by the Mark Patterson, PHD Director of Music and Composer in Residence Salisbury Presbyterian Church. His presentation was on Joyful Voices: A Community Chorus for Singers with Alzheimer and Dementia and their Caregivers.

The BRMC Monthly Membership Zoom Meeting for February 4 at 10AM was presented by the Association Director of Aging Well-YMCA of Greater Richmond, Faithea Flowers Foster. Her presentation was on the role of health, wellness and exercise as you age.

Katie Hood

Katie Hood is the Development Director for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Richmond Chapter.

Prior to joining the Greater Richmond Chapter, Katie worked as the Vice President of Development for the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter for 7 years. Katie grew up in Southside Virginia and attended Old Dominion University.

Haley Glynn

Topic- Enhancing Driver Safety

This January presentation is provided to educate mature drivers on how to identify potential driving problems and provide recommendations for improvement. It is intended to help keep seniors driving as safely as possible for as long as possible. We examined some interesting mature driver statistics, effects of aging on driving, new technology and roadway infrastructure advancements, prolonging the driving career and community resources.

Haley Glynn is the AAA Traffic Safety Specialist for central and southern Virginia. She brings with her nearly 15 years of traffic safety expertise. Before AAA, she was a Research Analyst for the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), and more recently, served as the Marketing and Project Manager for Youth of Virginia Speak Out, a program of the Virginia State Police. At AAA, Haley enjoys engaging and educating every age group about the importance of traffic safety. Haley is an alumna of Virginia Commonwealth University and resides in North Chesterfield with her husband and three sweet girls, Harper (5), Braelyn (3) and Margot (2).

Martha Gilliam

Martha Gilliam spoke on “Helping Seniors Remain Active at Home.”

Gilliam is the marketing director for Seniors Helping Seniors of the greater Richmond area. Seniors Helping Seniors is a nationally known company, providing in-home services to seniors who can benefit from a helping hand and a friendly smile.

Gilliam is a 40-year resident of Chesterfield County, with a background in marketing communications.

Originally from the Midwest, she held advertising and public relations positions in Chicago and Buffalo, as well as in Richmond. Additionally, she edited the first two editions of “By the Good People of Virginia,” the first textbook on Virginia government.
