Thomas Jefferson said it best when he wrote: “These mountains are the Eden of the United States.” Nestled amongst the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville offers a small town feel with a world class appeal. It has received numerous awards and recognitions included the 2004 award as #1 US city to live in It still ranks very high in that category. Today’s tour will take in several popular attractions and help you discover why our founding fathers decided to make Charlottesville their home.

In the morning, travel to The University of Virginia to its renowned Art Museum. Here you will find American and European paintings and sculptures of the 15th–19th centuries including art from the "Age of Thomas Jefferson" (1775-1825); art from the ancient Mediterranean; Asian art; and 20th century art. Highlights of the collection of 20th-century paintings, sculpture and works on paper include American figurative art and photography. This will be a Guided tour.

Here, in the heart of Virginia, discover the historic and prestigious Boar’s Head Inn, your luncheon stop today. This “uniquely Virginian” Inn became what its founders hoped it would be: an intimate, country retreat which tastefully combines 20th century convenience with 19th century charm. Preserving the spirit of its Elizabethan namesake, the Boar’s Head Inn has maintained a reputation for warm hospitality and excellent cuisine for over thirty years. Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in Old Mill Room-the main dining room of the Boar’s Head. The buffet consists of hot entrees, an extensive salad bar, and scrumptious desserts.

Spend the afternoon at beautiful Monticello, an architectural masterpiece perfectly representing the personality of its owner, the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson described the house as his "essay in architecture," but today it is recognized as an international treasure, showcasing the enduring significance of Jefferson’s life and ideas. Monticello is the only house in America on the United Nations prestigious World Heritage List of sites that must be protected at all costs. There will be plenty of time to explore the brand new state-of-the-art visitor center. This three-level, 42,000-square-foot complex serves as the 21st-century gateway to Jefferson’s timeless Monticello, with multiple exhibits and an introductory film that will educate and prepare you for your visit to the home. Don’t forget to visit the extensive gift shop! Before returning home we have one more stop for you at the Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard. Helmed by Patricia Kluge, whose touch and taste is stamped on every aspect of the operation, the winery echoes the magnificent 18th century architecture of the Kluge family’s home and chapel, and accentuated by a dazzling 18-hole golf course.
