The Brandermill Region Men's Club's guest speaker for our June 2, 2016 meeting was be Mr. Jim Triesler, Education Director for the Virginia War Memorial and creator/advisor for a Clover Hill High School student run website called It Took A War.

Mr. Triesler came to the Virginia War Memorial from Clover Hill High School in Chesterfield, where he taught Social Studies for 20 years. The class is project based, and his students won numerous awards and recognition from such organizations, such as the Virginia Historical Society, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Genealogical Research Institute of Virginia, the National World War II Museum, and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. As part of the Research Class, Mr. Triesler and his students created a website called It Took A War that is designed to honor those who lived through and served during World War II. The site consists of letters and interviews that tell the personal side of World War II. In 2007, It Took A War was recognized by the History Channel with a Save Our History Award. Mr. Triesler has also won numerous other awards, including being named the Region 1 Virginia Teacher of the Year (2007) and the Person of the Year by the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge (2012). He and his wife Elizabeth have one son, Jonathan, and they live in Chesterfield County.
